ABOUT RICHARD

Over 40 years of practice, 30 years of teaching

Introduced to yoga over 40 years ago, Richard soon added Tai Chi to his practice, studying with John Ding in London and HK Chan in Hong Kong.

He has been teaching for over 30 years — from Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club to HSBC HQ, and internationally at venues such as Huzur Vadisi in Turkey and Skyros in Greece.

ABOUT SHIBASHI QIGONG

Shibashi is a simple sequence of 18 flowing movements, developed in 1979 by Professor Lin Housheng at the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It combines Tai Chi flow, natural breathing, and simple movements.

Unlike more complex systems, Shibashi can be learned quickly and practised anywhere. Rather than focusing on muscles alone, it works with the body's fascia — the continuous web of connective tissue that links everything together. The focus is on intelligent movement, not effort.

WHAT RICHARD'S CLASSES FOCUSES ON

Intelligent movement

A focus on how the body moves rather than how hard it works — releasing the fascia, reducing tension, and improving posture through graceful, flowing sequences.

Rhythm & structure

Richard's background as a musician and instrument designer informs a deep understanding of how movement, structure and rhythm connect in the body.

Accessible to all

Shibashi can be learned quickly and practised anywhere — no prior experience needed. A welcoming lunchtime class suitable for all ages and abilities.

THE CLASS

Shibashi Qigong

A graceful Wednesday lunchtime practice

Learn Shibashi — a graceful sequence of 18 flowing movements combining Tai Chi and natural breathing. This practice focuses on intelligent movement to release the fascia, reduce tension, and improve balance, leaving you with a calmer mind and more energy.

Unlike more demanding movement practices, Shibashi works with the body's natural rhythms rather than against them. It can be learned quickly and the benefits are felt from the very first session.
